Kuala lumpur: A Moroccan delegation recently paid a study visit to Malaysia as part of a project focused on local economic development and the formalization of the economy, carried out in partnership with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the delegation, led by representatives of the Head of Government’s office and the Ministry of Economy and Finance, held a series of meetings on Thursday and Friday with several Malaysian ministerial departments. These discussions were devoted to the formalization of micro-enterprises and very small, small and medium-sized enterprises (VSMEs/SMEs), improving the business climate, and promoting integrated local economic development.
These exchanges provided an opportunity for the delegation to learn about the measures and public policies implemented by Malaysia to support the transition of actors in the informal economy toward the formal economy. The Moroccan officials were particularly interested in the incentive and support mechanisms designed to foster territorial economic development, especially for the benefit of VSMEs/SMEs.
The Moroccan representatives took this opportunity to highlight the development momentum in the Kingdom under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. They emphasized the strategic vision reflected in major structuring projects and a proactive policy of social inclusion and building the social state. In this context, they stressed the importance of reducing informality through the generalization of social protection and strengthening economic inclusion mechanisms.
The meetings involved several Malaysian ministries, including those of Higher Education, Finance, Entrepreneurship and Cooperatives Development, Economy, as well as Housing and Local Government. This visit is part of the cooperation between Morocco and the OECD, particularly the agreement signed in September 2024, which reflects a long-standing partnership through successive country programs.
