Rabat: Morocco’s elevation from “permanent observer” to “advanced partner” within the Forum of Presidents of the Legislative Powers of Central America, the Caribbean, and Mexico (FOPREL) marks a pivotal shift in its cooperation with the regional parliamentary group, the forum’s rotating president said on Wednesday. “This new status represents a turning point in our bilateral relations and opens fresh opportunities for cooperation and shared prosperity of our peoples,” Rodrigo Arias Sanchez said in a video message during the 30th extraordinary session of FOPREL, held in Rabat.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Sanchez underlined that this upgrade is expected to deepen exchanges and joint initiatives, strengthening both capacities and ties between Morocco and FOPREL member countries. The session, themed ‘Addressing Common Challenges: Security, Climate Change, and Economic Development’, serves as a platform for Morocco and FOPREL nations to promote political dialogue and parliamentary cooperation. The di
scussions aim to propose joint initiatives and tackle critical socio-economic and environmental challenges.

The two-day session focuses on four key areas: security challenges in Central America and beyond, parliamentary responses to climate change’s social and economic impacts, integrated development strategies, and a regional action plan. Delegates also review a framework bill targeting human trafficking, with a focus on protecting women and children.
