Morocco’s Dam Storage Hits 7.58 Bln m³, Says Gov’t Spokesperson

Morocco: Morocco’s dam storage rose from 31.1% to 45.26% between December 12 and January 8, corresponding to a storage volume of 7.58 billion cubic meters, the minister in charge of Relations with Parliament and government spokesperson, Mustapha Batas, said on Thursday.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, this is an unprecedented level since July 17, 2021, the minister specified in response to a question during a press briefing following the Government Council meeting. He added that dam inflows from September 1 to date have reached 3.427 billion cubic meters, including 3.006 billion cubic meters between December 12 and January 8, 2026.

These latest figures represent around 88% of total inflows recorded since the beginning of last September, he noted, pointing out that several dams are currently releasing surplus water, particularly in the Sebou basin.

More than 32 small dams, he continued, have recorded fill rates exceeding 100%, while major dams have also reached significant fill levels.

From September 1 to January 8, 2026, rainfall totaled 108 mm, with a significant year-on-year increase of nearly 94.4% and 21% above the usual average, Batas noted. He added that several regions of the Kingdom experienced heavy snowfall covering a total area of more than 55,400 square kilometers, an unprecedented level in recent years.
