Speaking during a panel held on the theme “Protection of personal data and digital identity”, Mr. Omar Seghrouchni, President of the National Committee for Personal Data Control and Protection (CNDP) referred to a deliberation of the Committee, in 2020, which laid the foundations for guidelines on an architecture of identifiers advocating the separation of storage locations for data usage and those for data authentication.

He added that the CNDP also proposed the establishment of a national trusted third party dedicated to authentication to prevent each service provider (bank, insurance, logistics, administration, etc.) from having internal biometric data.

Mr. Seghrouchni stressed the need to properly ensure the management of digital identity.

He also called for the establishment of an “international framework” dedicated to identity management to bring legal visions of this issue closer to operational visions.

This proposal aroused particular interest among representatives of data protection organizations in the southern Mediterranean (Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia).

The official also called for the establishment of a map of unique sector identifiers, with the aim of ensuring optimal protection of the privacy and personal data of citizens.

On the sidelines of this meeting, Mr. Seghrouchni, who is also president of the Committee on the Right of Access to Information, held working sessions with MM. Adnène Lassoued, President of the National Authority for Access to Information in Tunisia and Chawki Kaddes, President of the National Authority for the Protection of Personal Data in Tunisia (INPDP).
