Luanda: The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, emphasized the importance of prioritizing prevention in African peace and security measures during his address at the 26th Extraordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU) in Luanda. This session focused on enhancing conflict prevention and resolution mechanisms across the continent.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Bourita highlighted the significance of addressing the root causes of conflicts through a peace-security-development nexus, which should be central to Africa’s preventive strategies. He advocated for increased investment in elements that foster lasting peace, aligning with the objectives of the session. Bourita expressed Morocco’s full support for the session’s aims and stressed the necessity for coherence between the African Union and the United Nations in implementing the Luanda action plan.

Bourita reiterated Morocco’s commitment to the goals of the Extraordinary Summit, emphasizing the importance of the Luanda action plan and its implementation matrix. He also pointed out that financing mechanisms should strictly adhere to the budget procedures of the Union. The session, held under the theme of operationalizing the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA), aligns with the decision from the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government in February 2026, which called for a summit in Luanda focusing on conflict prevention, resolution, and financing strategies.

The session is expected to conclude with the adoption of a decision, along with the Luanda action plan and its implementation matrix, marking a significant step forward in the pursuit of a peaceful and secure Africa.
