Rabat: In implementation of the High Instructions issued by His Majesty King Mohammed VI to the Minister of the Interior and the Public Prosecutor, to ensure a smooth running of legislative elections for members of the House of Representatives, scheduled for September 23, 2026, the Central Election Monitoring Commission was activated on Monday during a meeting held at the headquarters of the Ministry of the Interior.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, provincial election monitoring commissions were also activated at the regional level. These commissions, in each prefecture, province, and district prefecture, are composed of the wali or governor, the King’s Public Prosecutor or the King’s Prosecutor, as well as regional commissions tasked with supporting provincial commissions in each region of the Kingdom, according to a press release from the Ministry of the Interior.

The primary mission of the Central Commission and the provincial and regional commissions is to take practical measures to ensure respect for the integrity of electoral operations by monitoring the progress of various stages of said operations, and to address immediately any issues likely to undermine that integrity, from the current phase through to voting and result announcement.

The Central Commission and the provincial and regional commissions will carry out their duties in strict compliance with applicable laws and regulations, without prejudice to the powers and prerogatives conferred by law upon legislative, judicial, and administrative bodies.

By adopting a participatory approach to managing preparations for upcoming elections, the Central Commission will hold meetings with leaders of political parties whenever necessary to keep them informed of the progress of preparations related to various stages of the electoral process, to listen to their proposals, and to address the issues they raise, the press release concludes.
