Morocco’s Top Police Chief Receives Pakistan’s Acting Inspector General of Police

Rabat: Director General of National Security (DGSN) and Territorial Surveillance (DGST), Abdellatif Hammouchi, received, on Monday in Rabat, the Acting Inspector General of Police at the Pakistani Ministry of the Interior, Salman Choudhry, who is on a working visit to Morocco at the head of a large security delegation.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the two parties reviewed various aspects of bilateral cooperation in security and explored ways to promote and expand this cooperation. The aim is to coordinate joint efforts to address security challenges, including the fight against irregular migration networks and human trafficking. This effort follows the recent shipwreck off the coast of Dakhla, which resulted in the death of several Pakistani nationals, as stated by the DGSN-DGST Cluster.

The meeting allowed the Pakistani official to express gratitude from his country’s higher authorities to Morocco for the intervention and rescue efforts made for Pakistani nationals who were victims of an international irregular migration network.

The discussions also covered the importance of strengthening cooperation in the fight against terrorism, given the heightened terrorist threats to the security of both countries. This is particularly crucial due to their geographical proximity to regions where groups affiliated with Al-Qaeda and Daesh are active.

Additionally, the development prospects for bilateral security cooperation were discussed. This includes the exchange of experiences, expertise, and good practices, as well as data sharing in combating risks and threats to the security of both countries and their citizens.

This visit underscores the significance of security cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, marking them as key partners in international counter-terrorism efforts and the fight against transnational organized crime. The statement emphasized the strong commitment of the DGSN and DGST services to international actions aimed at neutralizing risks and threats to regional and international security.
