The House of Councillors’ Speaker Enaam Mayara held on Monday in Amman talks with the Jordanian Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Bisher Al-Khasawneh, on ways to strengthen cooperation between Morocco and Jordan.

At the start of the meeting, Mayara recalled the historic ties and fraternal relations between the two countries, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI and his brother HM King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein, praising the excellence of bilateral cooperation in various fields, according to a press release by the Upper House.

Mayara also commended the constant coordination and consultation between the two Kingdoms on all issues of common interest, as well as the consolidation of solidarity in Arab, Islamic and international forums, based on a shared vision and with the ambition of ensuring development, security and stability at regional and international levels.

On this occasion, the House of Councillors’ speaker reaffirmed the firm and clear position of the Kingdom of Morocco, under the wise guidance of His Majesty the King and in application of the High Guidelines of the Sovereign, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, with regard to the Palestinian cause and the Holy City, and its rejection of any infringement of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, first and foremost their right to establish a sovereign and viable Palestinian state within the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Al-Quds as its capital, living side by side with the State of Israel in security and stability, in the service of peace and development in the region.

In this context, Mayara explained that his visit to Jordan, Palestine and Israel, in his capacity as President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, at the head of a delegation from his office, would help cement the bridges of dialogue and communication between Palestinian and Israeli parliamentarians on issues linked to the Middle East peace process.

For his part, the Jordanian Prime Minister and Minister of Defense hailed the quality and depth of relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan under the leadership of the Sovereigns of the two brotherly countries, as well as the dynamics of Morocco-Jordanian cooperation in recent years.

Al-Khasawneh also stressed the importance of ongoing coordination between Jordan and Morocco on many regional and international issues, noting that the two Kingdoms are “major players” in joint Arab action, working together with a synergistic vision on a number of issues, chief among them constant support for the Palestinian cause.

He emphasized the leading role played by HM King Mohammed VI and his brother the King of Jordan, through their responsibility in chairing the Al-Quds Committee and the Hashemite Trusteeship, in defending the Holy City, praising the role of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean as a platform for constructive and permanent dialogue and a channel for parliamentary diplomacy on issues linked to the Middle East peace process.
