Muslim and Jewish Coexistence Celebrated in Essaouira Ceremony


Essaouira:The exceptional coexistence between Muslims and Jews in Morocco was highlighted during a spiritual ceremony held at Bayt Dakira in Essaouira on Thursday evening. The event was attended by numerous religious leaders and dignitaries from Morocco and abroad.



According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the ceremony, which celebrated the Jewish holiday of “Sukkot,” included the presence of Andr© Azoulay, Advisor to His Majesty the King and Founding President of the Essaouira-Mogador Association. It provided an opportunity for Muslims and Jews to share their traditions, emphasizing shared values of peace, brotherhood, tolerance, and openness.



Participants at the event discussed the historical ties between Muslims and Jews in Morocco, noting a centuries-old history that has contributed to the richness of the nation’s heritage. They highlighted that the coexistence is not only rooted in historical memory but is actively reflected in the daily lives of Moroccans through human connections and cultural exchanges.



The coexistence is seen as an integral part of the Moroccan model, which is characterized by respect for diversity and the preservation of the Kingdom’s various cultural identities under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. This pluralism is considered a treasure to be preserved and passed on to future generations.



The ceremony featured prayers, songs, and teachings from both Muslim and Jewish traditions, centered on themes of brotherhood, solidarity, hope, and peace, creating an atmosphere of contemplation.
