Nador:Rabat The Nador West Med port and industrial complex is poised to revolutionize Morocco’s national port system with its first terminal scheduled to commence operations in the coming days. Idriss Aarabi, Managing Director of Tanger Med, emphasized the project’s significance, noting its positive impact on local communities.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the Nador West Med megaproject, which has seen an investment of MAD 54 billion, is expected to create 14,000 direct jobs and 20,000 indirect jobs. These opportunities will be supported by specialized training programs aimed at enhancing the professional integration of young people.
The port infrastructure currently includes a first container terminal capable of handling 3.5 million containers. A second terminal, with a capacity of 1.8 million containers, is planned to begin operations in April 2027. Additionally, the presence of hydrocarbon and liquefied natural gas terminals will bolster the Kingdom’s energy security.
Aarabi also highlighted the expansion of the Tanger Med complex, with the initiation of construction on the new Tanger Med 3 port, a project involving an investment of approximately MAD 8 billion. This development is expected to position the Tanger Med port among the world’s top 10 container ports, with a handling capacity of 20 million containers.
The progress of the Nador West Med port and industrial complex, along with the expansion of the Tanger Med complex, was the focus of a recent working session chaired by His Majesty King Mohammed VI at the Royal Palace in Rabat.
