North Macedonia Endorses Autonomy Plan for Moroccan Sahara as Solution Basis


Skopje: North Macedonia has expressed its support for the autonomy plan as the only viable basis to resolve the Moroccan Sahara dispute, as stated in a joint declaration signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and North Macedonia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Timco Mucunski. This announcement followed their meeting in Skopje.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Minister Mucunski reaffirmed North Macedonia’s longstanding endorsement of the UN-led process aimed at reaching a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable political solution for all involved parties. The joint statement emphasized the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of North Macedonia’s commitment to the UN’s leadership in this political process, further expressing their support for UN Security Council Resolution 2756, which highlights the importance of a realistic, lasting political solution based on compromise.

The joint statement also confirmed the support f
rom both Morocco and North Macedonia for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy in advancing the political process. This support aligns with relevant Security Council resolutions and the principles outlined in the UN Charter.

North Macedonia’s new stance forms part of a growing international momentum in favor of Morocco’s autonomy initiative. This movement has garnered increasing international consensus, driven by the efforts of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
