RAMALLAH: Israeli occupation forces Tuesday erected several checkpoints in the occupied West Bank governorate of Ramallah and al-Bireh, according to security sources.

They said that the occupation soldiers set up a checkpoint at the entrance of Turmus Ayya town, northeast of the city of Ramallah, and another at the entrance of Ein Yabrud village, northeast of the city, stopping Palestinian-registered vehicles and inspecting passengers’ identity cards.

Meanwhile, the occupation forces set up a checkpoint near Taybeh village, east of Ramallah, at a time when they tightened movement restrictions at the ‘Ein Siniya checkpoint, north of Ramallah, forcing Palestinians to endure lengthy delays back to their houses.

Israel severely restricts Palestinians’ freedom of movement through a complex combination of over 100 fixed checkpoints, flying checkpoints, settler-only roads and various other physical obstructions.

Closures besides other measures, taken under the guise of security, are intended to entrench Israel’s
57-year-old military occupation of the West Bank and its settler colonial project which it enforces with routine and frequently deadly violence against Palestinians.
