Presidency condemns US veto of Algerian-led resolution on Gaza at UN Security Council

RAMALLAH: The Palestinian Presidency today expressed strong condemnation of the United States vetoing of the Algerian-led draft resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. The presidency, in a statement, expressed its surprise at the continued American refusal to stop the genocidal war waged by the occupation against the Palestinian people. The presidency affirmed that the American veto, which defies the will of the international community, will give an additional green light to the Israeli occupation state to continue its aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, and to carry out its bloody attack on Rafah. It also stressed that these measures taken by the American administration support and provide protection for the occupation authorities. He maintained that the alternative draft resolution that the US announced it would submit to the Security Council came to justify its use of the veto on the Algerian-Arab draft resolution. The presidency held the United States responsible for the c ontinued Israeli aggression against Palestinian children, women and the elderly in the Gaza Strip at the hands of the occupation forces as a result of its policy of supporting the occupation and the barbaric Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people. It stressed that this policy makes the United States a partner in the crime of genocide, ethnic cleansing, and war crimes committed by the Israeli occupation forces against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including Jerusalem, warning that this policy has become a danger to the world and a threat to international peace and security. In the same context, the Palestinian presidency thanked the member states of the Security Council that sided with justice, peace, and human ethics and supported the resolution calling for stopping the Israeli aggression. It also called on the international community to search for solutions to stop the genocidal war committed by Israel in the occupied Palestinian territory, especially in the Gaza Strip.
