Public Prosecutor highlights Bahrain’s efforts to combat money laundering and terror finance

Manama, A major conference highlighting judicial cooperation in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) combat money laundering and terror-related finance opened today in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Addressing the event, Public Prosecutor Dr. Ali bin Fadhl Al Bouainain highlighted Bahrain’s efforts to combat money laundering and terror financing crimes.

“This has contributed to strengthening the capabilities of law enforcement authorities and overcoming the difficulties and challenges that may encounter international judicial cooperation by identifying effective practices in the face of this type of crimes”, he said.

He noted that the conference reflected Bahrain’s advanced international standing, thanks to its legislative and institutional system as well as successes in combatig money laundering and terror finance, that pose a threat to countries’ security and economic stability.

Dr. Al Bouainain stressed the role of judicial cooperation in this regard, and the sincere and effective efforts made by the Kingdom in combating these crimes, in accordance with its responsibilities and principles, in order to enforce the law to curb illegal financial flows and prevent the use of organized crime proceeds.

The Public Prosecution is organizing under the patronage of Dr. Al Bouainain and in cooperation with the Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights and the EU’s Anti-Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism Office.

The conference aims to enhance cooperation between countries in order to consolidate international and regional efforts to combat money laundering and terrorist financing crimes, and to contribute to supporting the active role of law enforcement agencies in combating them.

It also contributes to addressing the difficulties and challenges facing international judicial cooperation by identifying the most effective practices in facing this type of crime.

He noted that money laundering and terror financing crimes of all kinds represent one of the security threats that face the international community and pose a danger to the stability of societies and weaken their components.

The opening ceremony was attended by Supreme Judicial Council Vice Chairman, Court of Cassation President Chancellor Abdulla bin Hassan Al Bouainain, Central Bank of Bahrain Governor Rasheed bin Mohammed Al Maraj, Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa and other officials.
