Road Accidents Claim 18 Lives in Morocco’s Urban Areas over Past Week.


Rabat: Eighteen people were killed and 2,583 injured, 111 of them seriously, in the 2,006 road accidents that occurred in urban areas from October 28 to November 3, according to the General Directorate for National Security (DGSN).

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, these accidents were mainly due to drivers’ inattention, failure to give right of way, speeding, pedestrians’ inattention and failure to keep a safe distance, as pointed out by DGSN in a press release.

With regard to the control and repression of traffic offenses, the security services drew up 46,102 tickets and submitted 8,228 reports to the public prosecutor’s office. Additionally, 37,874 transactional fines were collected, amounting to over 8.3 million dirhams.

The DGSN also reported the impoundment and immobilization of 4,292 and 280 vehicles, respectively.
