United Nations (New York) – Burkina Faso reaffirmed, in New York, its support for the Moroccan autonomy initiative, presented by the Kingdom in 2007 with a view to putting an end to the regional dispute over the Sahara.

Speaking before the 4th Committee of the UN General Assembly, the representative of Burkina Faso said that his country reaffirms its support for the Moroccan autonomy initiative.

Morocco’s efforts greatly contribute to improving the quality of life of the populations of the southern provinces of the Kingdom, he pointed out.

The diplomat also welcomed the international momentum in favor of the Moroccanness of the Sahara reflected by the opening of some thirty Consulates General in the region, including that of Burkina Faso.

He also highlighted the efforts made by MINURSO to ensure the stability of the ceasefire.

Burkina Faso reiterated its support for the political process conducted under the aegis of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to achieve a realistic, lasting and compromis
e political solution to the regional dispute over the Sahara, as recommended by the relevant Security Council resolutions adopted since 2007.
