Rabat – The Equipment and Water Ministry announced that on Saturday at 4:00 p.m., 35 out of 44 road sections have been reopened following the flooding caused by heavy rainfall in several valleys across the Kingdom.
In a statement, the ministry reported that it is urgently working to restore access to impacted by storms, with efforts focused on opening the remaining road sections, including National Road no. 17 between Foum Zguid and Tata, and National Road no. 7 between Taroudant and Tata.
Concerning the region of Tata which experienced severe flooding, particularly in the city of Tata, intervention teams have reopened some key roads leading to the city, notably the section of National Road No. 17 that connects to the National Road No 7.
From September 19 to 21, the Kingdom experienced intense storms that disrupted traffic across 44 road sections due to flooding in several provinces, including Tata, Zagora, Ouarzazate, Assa-Zag, Boulemane, Taroudant, Tinghir, Smara, Jerada and Figuig.
Since the beginning
of these heavy rainfalls, the ministry has mobilized its human resources as well as its material and logistical means, the press release notes, adding that 210 people (engineers, technicians, vehicle drivers and workers) and more than 100 machines (graders, loading and digging machines, bulldozers and trucks) were mobilized urgently.
The main sections where traffic was disrupted are:
– National Road No. 7 connecting Taroudant and Tata.
– National Road No. 9 connecting Ouarzazate and Zagora
– National Road No. 10 connecting Ouarzazate and Tinghir on the one hand and Errachidia and Bouanane on the other hand.
– National Road No. 14 connecting Smara and Jdiriya
– National Road No. 15 connecting Guercif, Outat El Haj and Midelt
– National Road No. 17 between Tata and Zagora
– Regional Road No. 103 connecting Assa-Zag and Al Mahbès.
– Regional Road No. 111 between Tata and Ouarzazate
– Regional Road No. 307 connecting Skoura and Ghassate
– Regional Road No. 708 between Gourrama and Beni Tajjite.
The mi
nistry urges all citizens to observe the utmost caution on the roads and to be extremely vigilant in areas of heavy rain.
