Tangier: Minister of Transport and Logistics Abdessamad Kayouh held talks on Thursday in Tangier with Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Arsenio Dominguez on strengthening maritime cooperation. This meeting, held on the sidelines of the first National Maritime Conference, provided an opportunity to examine ways to strengthen cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the IMO, and to exchange views on the main challenges and transformations facing the maritime sector internationally, particularly in terms of maritime transport development, enhancement of maritime safety and security, and protection of the marine environment.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the minister highlighted the momentum experienced by the national maritime sector under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, through the major structuring projects launched by the Kingdom in the maritime, port, and logistics fields, as well as projects related to the development of a national maritime fleet and the strengthening of the competitiveness of the Moroccan maritime system. For his part, Dominguez praised Morocco’s role at the regional and international levels in the maritime field, as well as the efforts deployed by the Kingdom to modernize maritime and port infrastructure and strengthen its commitment to international standards relating to maritime safety and environmental sustainability, while expressing the IMO’s commitment to encouraging and promoting all cooperation initiatives and actions between the two parties.
He also congratulated Morocco on the quality of the organization of the first National Maritime Conference, while commending the richness of the discussions held during this event. The two sides reaffirmed their determination to continue coordination and strengthen joint cooperation in order to support the sustainable development of the maritime sector and consolidate Morocco’s position as a major maritime and logistics player at the regional and international levels.
Organized under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the National Maritime Conference will continue over two days through a series of strategic panels dedicated to the major challenges facing the national and international maritime sector. The conference constitutes a major step in the collective reflection on the Kingdom’s maritime future and reflects Morocco’s ambition to consolidate its position as a leading maritime, port, and logistics player at the regional, continental, and international levels.
