Tangier Hosts ‘Arte dal Vulcano’ Exhibition Celebrating 2,500 Years of Naples


Tangier: The opening of the exhibition “Arte dal Vulcano” took place on Monday evening at the Palace of Italian Institutions in Tangier, as part of the celebrations marking the 2,500th anniversary of the founding of the Italian city of Naples.



According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the event is organized under the aegis of the National Committee Neapolis 2500 by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Embassy of Italy in Morocco, and the Italian Cultural Institute of Rabat. The exhibition was inaugurated by Italy’s Ambassador to Morocco, Pasquale Salzano, and showcases works by contemporary Neapolitan and Campanian artists from the collections of the Madre Museum and the Novecento Museum of Naples.



The opening ceremony featured a musical program dedicated to Neapolitan song, performed by singer Emilia Zamuner with guitarist Alessandro Morlando. This was in collaboration with the Italian National Music Committee and supported by the Italian Ministry of Culture.



Salzano highlighted the symbolic significance of the exhibition, emphasizing its role in celebrating a millenary heritage and the vitality of the Neapolitan artistic scene. He noted that the exhibition in Tangier is part of the bicentenary of diplomatic relations between Italy and Morocco, highlighting a cultural dialogue rooted in shared history and the Mediterranean.



Angela Tecce, President of the “Donnaregina” Foundation for Contemporary Arts – Madre Museum, remarked that the participating artists originate from Naples and span different generations, from renowned masters to emerging creators. She stressed the historical and cultural ties between Naples and Tangier, noting that art fosters closeness and exchange.



Carmela Callea, Director of the Italian Cultural Institute of Rabat, stated that the exhibition illustrates the evolution of Italian art, engaging with tradition while embracing new forms of expression. She added that the event offers a moment for reflection on Campanian and Neapolitan creativity, driven by a dynamic capable of transcending borders.
