The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories, Sheikh Mohammad Hussein, today warned of an outbreak of a religious war if Israel continues in its aggression against the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem’s Old City by allowing Jewish extremists to continue to storm it and pray in its yards in violation of the existing historical and legal status quo. He warned that a religious war will affect not only the occupied territories, rather the entire world and it will not spare anyone from its fire. He pointed in a statement to the desperate attempts to change the existing historical status quo, which has recently accelerated through falsifying facts and history, stressing that the history of Al-Aqsa Mosque and that it is for Muslims alone who refuse to divide and share.it is known to everyone and to international and official bodies as well. The Mufti appealed to the international community to assume its responsibilities and to intervene urgently to rein in the occupation authorities, prevent them from implementing what they are planning against Al-Aqsa Mosque, and to take actual decisions to ward off the dangers facing the Palestinian holy places. ‘The Palestinian people insist on defending Al-Aqsa Mosque, no matter what the sacrifices, and that the occupation will end sooner or later,’ the Mufti concluded his statement.
