Tribute to Late King Hassan II Strengthens Morocco-Angola Relations


Rabat: Tribute Paid to the late HM King Hassan II has reaffirmed the historic friendship between Morocco and Angola, as highlighted by the Angolan ambassador during an official ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of Angola’s independence at the Mohammed V Theater. The ceremony emphasized the significance of the Medal of Honor awarded to the late Sovereign on November 6, recognizing his pivotal role in supporting Angola’s journey toward freedom.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, friendly relations between Morocco and Angola date back to before Angola’s independence in 1975, with Morocco being among the first countries to recognize the new nation. Over the years, the two countries have established numerous cooperation mechanisms that are now being revitalized to tackle contemporary challenges. The Angolan ambassador expressed a commitment to deepening these historical ties, particularly focusing on expanding partnerships in agriculture, logistics, energy, and industrial processing.

rt, director of African Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, lauded the gesture by the President of Angola in honoring the late King Hassan II. He emphasized that this tribute not only acknowledges the late King’s contributions to Angola’s independence but also his dedication to Africa’s freedom, peace, and development. The choice of November 6, coinciding with the anniversary of King Hassan II’s Green March speech, added a symbolic layer to the honor.

Boutadghart also highlighted the current positive momentum in bilateral cooperation, noting the convening of three Joint Commissions, the signing of several legal agreements, and the initiation of numerous projects across various sectors. The ceremony was marked by a warm atmosphere, featuring artistic performances in the style of Angolan music and attended by members of the diplomatic community, the Angolan diaspora, and distinguished guests from different sectors.
