Two Killed, 14 Missing as Bus Swept Away by Flooding in Eastern Morocco

Tata – A passenger bus was swept away by severe flooding on Friday in the eastern city of Tata, resulting in two fatalities and leaving 14 individuals missing, local authorities reported in a provisional toll. Thirteen passengers were successfully rescued.

In addition to the bus incident, a woman remains unaccounted for in Aigourtine village, part of the Tazmirt municipality.

The flooding was triggered by intense thunderstorms that caused unprecedented rainfall, leading to alarming increases in river levels. The Tata River reached a peak flow of over 2,300 cubic meters per second, while the Zquid River hit 1,900 cubic meters per second.

The flooding caused significant damage, including the complete or partial collapse of several homes, the destruction of infrastructure, and disruptions to traffic on key routes.

Authorities are mobilizing resources to locate the missing individuals, assist affected residents and restore essential services.
