UK Endorsement of Moroccan Autonomy Plan Marks Diplomatic Turning Point: French Assembly VP


London: The United Kingdom’s endorsement of the Moroccan autonomy plan for the Sahara represents “a major diplomatic turning point,” as stated by Nama Moutchou, Vice President of the French National Assembly, on her official X account.



According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Moutchou highlighted that the UK now joins France and the United States in supporting Morocco’s autonomy plan. She described this development as a significant diplomatic shift, indicating that facts are prevailing, support is expanding, and a consensual political solution is emerging.



Moutchou, who holds roles as Vice President of the Friendship Group and Co-Chair of the Study Group on the Sahara in the National Assembly, expressed her approval of the progress toward a sustainable and realistic solution. She also serves as the spokesperson and National Secretary of the Horizons party.



The UK’s position was formalized in a joint communiqu© signed in Rabat by UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, David Lammy, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita. The communiqu© noted the UK’s intention to align its actions with this position at bilateral, regional, and international levels.
