Rabat: Morocco has firmly positioned itself as a key pillar of stability and a respected voice on both regional and international platforms under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, according to former U.N. General Assembly Chairman Abdulla Shahid. In a recent interview with MAP ahead of Morocco’s Throne Day festivities, Shahid highlighted the Kingdom’s unwavering commitment to multilateralism, South-South cooperation, and constructive international engagement.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Shahid, who previously served as the Maldivian foreign minister, emphasized Morocco’s active diplomatic efforts and its strategic role as a bridge linking Africa, the Arab world, Asia, and Europe. This unique positioning has enabled Morocco to contribute significantly to peace, dialogue, and sustainable development across these regions. He described Morocco as a “steadfast and constructive” advocate of multilateralism amidst a backdrop of increasing global fragmentation.
Shahid praised Morocco’s consistent demonstration that dialogue, partnership, and international cooperation are the most effective strategies for addressing shared challenges. He further commended Morocco’s efforts in advancing South-South cooperation, especially within Africa, through partnerships that emphasize mutual benefit, solidarity, and shared prosperity. This approach, he noted, underscores Morocco’s belief in achieving sustainable development through collaboration rather than competition.
Furthermore, Shahid remarked on Morocco’s active participation within the United Nations and its dedication to building bridges between various regions and cultures. This commitment has established the country as an essential partner in promoting a more inclusive, balanced, and effective multilateral order. He also acknowledged Morocco’s exemplary model of moderation, religious tolerance, and dialogue among civilizations, offering a beacon of hope in a time when societal divisions and extremism are on the rise.
“Under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, Morocco has fostered an approach grounded in mutual respect and peaceful coexistence,” Shahid stated. He concluded by noting that the Kingdom’s initiatives in religion and intercultural dialogue have been instrumental in fostering a better understanding of Islam, countering narratives that perpetuate intolerance and radicalization.
