This annual meeting, to be hosted by the BNRM, “will be an opportunity for the various representatives of ISBN agencies worldwide to visit the city of lights and the national library which is one of the best buildings of the cultural capital of Morocco,” he said in a statement.
The hosting of the upcoming GA by Morocco was decided unanimously during a meeting held at the National Library of Oslo on September 8-9. This choice is due to “the international reputation of Morocco in the organization of this kind of professional meeting, in addition to the confidence of the agency in the ability of the BNRM to organize this international event,” El Ferrane added.
This international event will be an opportunity for professionals to shed light on the standards of editing and publishing. It will also be an opportunity to exchange on the development of the cultural sector and the book industry, he explained.
The Library will ensure “the success of this meeting and its proper management since it is an opportunity to exchange on international standards of numbering and modes of use,” El Ferranne noted.
The Moroccan official represented the Kingdom at the meeting of Oslo, which was attended by more than 150 representatives of national and regional ISBN agencies. The meeting was an opportunity to discuss recent developments in the publishing industry and to review the correct use of the ISBN code for books.
The London-based International ISBN Agency is appointed by ISO as the registration authority for the ISBN system worldwide.
An ISBN is essentially a product identifier used by publishers, booksellers, libraries, internet retailers and other supply chain participants for ordering, listing, sales records and stock control purposes. The ISBN identifies the registrant as well as the specific title, edition and format.
