Upper House Deputy Speaker Meets with Australia’s Lower House Speaker in Rabat


Rabat: The Deputy Speaker of Morocco’s House of Councillors, Ahmed Akhchichine, held a meeting on Wednesday with the Speaker of Australia’s House of Representatives, Milton Dick, who is on a working visit to the Kingdom.



According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Akhchichine welcomed the positive momentum in bilateral ties between Morocco and Australia. He noted that it showcases the two countries’ mutual will to bolster the solid partnership and strengthen the ties of friendship and cooperation in different fields of mutual interest, as stated in a press release by the Upper House.



Akhchichine also reviewed the major development projects undertaken by Morocco in various sectors under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI. In this respect, he highlighted the Royal Atlantic Initiative, which aims to provide Sahel countries with access to the Atlantic Ocean by linking their infrastructure to Morocco’s advanced port, road, and rail infrastructure. This integrated geostrategic project seeks to break isolation, promote regional integration, and bolster South-South solidarity.



The meeting also served as an opportunity to reiterate the importance of promoting parliamentary ties between the two countries at both bilateral and multilateral levels. This can be achieved by strengthening communication channels between deputies, exchanging visits, and sharing experiences and expertise in parliamentary issues of mutual interest.



For his part, the Speaker of Australia’s House of Representatives expressed that this visit is part of the mutual determination to promote cooperation and partnership ties between Morocco and Australia, especially in key fields. He emphasized the strong political will to strengthen and develop parliamentary cooperation in service of the interests of the two brotherly countries and peoples.
