Upper House Engages in Parliamentary Congress in Lima

Lima: The House of Councillors took part in a recent parliamentary congress held in Lima, marking a significant milestone in regional and international integration efforts. The event focused on comprehensive discussions encompassing academic, political, economic, and human dimensions, with the aim of enhancing cooperation and partnership with the Andean Parliament.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the head of the delegation, First Deputy Speaker of the House of Councillors and its representative to the Andean Parliament, Abdelkader Salama, emphasized Morocco’s strategic vision under the guidance of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. Salama outlined the nation’s commitment to promoting integration within the African continent and the Arab world, adopting a South-South cooperation framework based on principles of solidarity, joint development, sovereignty respect, and openness to diverse partnerships.

Salama’s address highlighted two pivotal areas: Morocco’s role in African integration and its relations with the Arab world, specifically exemplified by its ties with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. He underscored Morocco’s re-engagement with the African Union in 2017 and its involvement in strategic projects such as the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline and the Atlantic Initiative. These initiatives aim to provide landlocked African nations with access to the coast, thereby enhancing Morocco’s cultural, financial, and scientific influence across the continent.
