Marrakech: The youth are the driving force behind solutions and the architects of safer, more sustainable mobility, Assistant Secretary-General for Youth Affairs at the United Nations Youth Office, Felipe Paullier, said on Sunday in Marrakech.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Paullier emphasized in a video message during a panel held as part of the 3rd World Youth Assembly for Road Safety that the youth, with their passion and commitment, are the leaders who will shape the transport systems of tomorrow. The assembly was themed “Inspiring Local Action on Global Issues Through the Voices of Leaders and Cultural Icons.”
Paullier stressed that the youth are key partners in improving road safety and building a safer, more sustainable future. He highlighted that road accidents remain the leading cause of death among children and youth, claiming 1,000 lives per day. He called for youth to be actively involved in decision-making processes and the development of public policies on road safety.
He noted that the youth are already leading the way by innovating through technology to make transportation safer, mobilizing communities, shifting mindsets, and engaging their peers in powerful advocacy efforts. This demonstrates that meaningful youth participation is not just a demand but a necessity.
Paullier concluded by stating, “Road safety is a shared responsibility, where governments, civil society, the private sector, and the youth all have a role to play.”
