Autonomy Plan Seen as Sole Resolution to Moroccan Sahara Dispute by Former Spanish Minister


Las Palmas: The autonomy plan proposed by Morocco to resolve the ongoing conflict regarding its territorial claims is regarded as the “only solution” to conclusively address this regional issue.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Speaking at the 3rd International Conference for Dialogue and Peace, Bono emphasized the importance of this plan as a resolution to the prolonged conflict and the dire conditions in the Tindouf camps.

Bono asserted that the Moroccan autonomy plan is the “only possible, reasonable, credible and effective solution” to end the conflict. He noted the lengthy duration of this dispute and highlighted the need to alleviate the hardships faced by people living in the Tindouf camps. Bono urged for negotiations between all parties involved, stating that the autonomy plan offers the best path forward, while criticizing the ‘polisario’ for holding on to outdated positions.

During the opening session of the international conference, Bono also acknowledged Morocco’s ‘considerable progress
‘ across various sectors in recent years. He commended the collaborative efforts between Morocco and Spain, particularly noting Morocco’s significant role in combating terrorism and contributing to regional security and stability.
