Dakhla: A delegation from the Canary Islands is exploring business and investment opportunities in the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region. Initiated by the Federation of Maritime Fisheries and Aquaculture, in partnership with the Federation of Port Companies and the Canary Islands Economic Promotion Agency, this visit aims to identify productive sectors and strengthen economic cooperation between the Canary Islands and Morocco, with a focus on areas such as port services, logistics, port digitalization, renewable energy, the blue economy, and the circular economy.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the Secretary General of the Federation of Maritime Fisheries and Aquaculture, Omar Akouri, has highlighted the robustness of cooperative relations maintained for several years with Canary Island partners. These relations have been especially strong in the maritime fisheries sector, characterized by continuous exchanges of expertise and best practices. Akouri noted that the visit offers the delegation an opportunity
to witness firsthand the development achieved by the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, particularly in maritime fisheries and modern port infrastructure.
José Juan Socas, president of the Federation of Port Companies and the Canary Islands Economic Promotion Agency, commented on the strategic importance of the Dakhla Atlantic port project. He stated that this project represents a major commercial opportunity for Canary Island companies in the port sector to enhance their international presence. Socas recalled the Canary Islands’ consistent efforts to expand into new markets, particularly in Africa, and emphasized the importance of closely examining this port project. He affirmed his commitment to keeping partners and professional associations informed of the project’s progress and emerging opportunities, stressing that the visit has helped identify the economic opportunities that this strategic project will soon offer the Canary Islands.
