Energy Transition Minister Reiterates Morocco’s Commitment to Regional & International Cooperation in Mining


Riyadh: Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, reiterated, on Tuesday in Riyadh, Morocco’s commitment to supporting regional and international cooperation in the mining sector.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, speaking at the opening of the 4th International Meeting of Mining Ministers, Benali emphasized the global focus on Africa due to its abundant mineral resources essential for processing industries. She stressed that the contribution of these resources must align with Morocco’s advocacy for full respect of social rights and labor laws, particularly against the exploitation of children.

The Minister highlighted the necessity for sustainable mining practices and responsible exploitation of mineral resources to fulfill the demands of the global energy transition. She affirmed Morocco’s readiness to enhance cooperation with international partners, aiming to convert challenges into investment opportunities. Benali underscored the importance of coordinated efforts to
develop and sustain mineral value chains.

Participants at the meeting addressed the challenges of clean energy, urging the adoption of policies that support sustainable exploration and the development of local industries associated with minerals. They also called for leveraging modern technology to maximize the added value of these resources.

The 4th International Meeting of Mining Ministers continues until January 16, featuring international mining industry leaders from 85 countries and heads of 50 international organizations. The event is set to explore development opportunities for producing countries and serves as a global platform for experts and leaders to shape a sustainable future for mining industries.
