Government Chief Calls for Action Against Corruption to Regain Public Trust

Accra:Institutions will struggle to regain public trust unless they effectively address corruption and conflicts of interest, according to Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri, the Head of Government. She made this statement during a joint plenary session before both Houses of Parliament, where the Government Program was presented.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, El Mansouri emphasized the government’s commitment to finalizing the National Integrity System. This includes criminalizing illicit enrichment, penalizing conflicts of interest in line with Article 36 of the Constitution, strengthening mandatory asset disclosure requirements, and penalizing the misuse of information for obtaining privileges.

El Mansouri also announced plans for a structural reform to regulate markets and combat monopolies and opportunistic intermediation. This will be achieved through a dedicated mechanism and appropriate resources in coordination with the Competition Council.

Additionally, the government intends to establish mechanisms to review public procurement, investigate collusion in bidding processes, and leverage public procurement for production and inclusion. A significant measure will be the legal requirement for contracting authorities to allocate 30% of their contract value to Moroccan small and medium-sized enterprises.
