Rabat: Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch received U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau on Thursday in Rabat, who is on an official visit to Morocco. These talks, attended by U.S. Ambassador to Morocco Duke Buchan, provided an opportunity to explore ways of bolstering strategic relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States, under the leadership of the two Heads of State, His Majesty King Mohammed VI and U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, during the meeting, the Head of Government conveyed the Kingdom of Morocco’s appreciation for the United States’ stance on the national issue, as Washington reiterated on Wednesday its recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and emphasized its ongoing support for the Moroccan autonomy proposal, described as the sole basis for reaching a just and lasting solution to the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
Akhannouch also welcomed the United States’ support for American companies looking to invest in
Southern provinces of the Kingdom, particularly in the sectors of green hydrogen, tourism, agriculture, and green energy. He highlighted the leading role Morocco can play as a gateway for U.S. investment in the African continent, within the framework of a win-win partnership.
The two sides also reviewed opportunities to develop economic, investment, and trade partnerships between Morocco and the United States and emphasized the importance of bilateral cooperation, notably through the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and the International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), as well as the importance of supporting and guiding the activities of U.S. operators in the social sector, particularly in areas of education and health.
These meetings further provided an opportunity to recall the depth of historic bilateral relations, dating back to the signing in 1787 of the Morocco-U.S. Treaty of Peace and Friendship, and to express the shared aspiration for a promising future between the two friendly nations
