INTERPOL AG: Morocco’s Top Police Chief Engages in Strategic Bilateral Meetings

Rabat: The bilateral meetings, held at the request of delegations from participating countries and international and regional organizations, provided an opportunity to discuss issues of common interest, assess levels of bilateral cooperation, and strengthen ties with various security partners and actors.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the meetings highlighted engagement with new security partners in Europe, Asia, Latin America, and Africa, aimed at enhancing Morocco’s security model and using it to serve the country’s higher interests. They also set the stage for mutual assistance and technical support in policing with international and regional organizations, particularly in areas such as law enforcement operations, cybercrime, and other forms of organized crime.

As part of the bilateral security cooperation with the heads of participating countries’ delegations, the Director-General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance and his accompanying delegation held intensive meetings and consultations with delegations from several countries from different continents. The meetings were intended to bolster security cooperation ties with the Kingdom of Morocco and allow other countries to benefit from Morocco’s experience in the field, as part of a new security partnership based on cooperation and technical and operational assistance.

At the European level, bilateral meetings included talks with high-ranking officials from Poland, Serbia, Russia, Sweden, Denmark, Montenegro, Slovenia, Switzerland, Slovakia, Bulgaria, and Romania. Morocco’s engagement extended to meetings with Germany’s Federal Criminal Police Office, Spain’s National Police, and Italy’s Public Security, among others.

In Africa, discussions took place with officials from Benin, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Mali, Cameroon, Namibia, Rwanda, Sudan, Niger, Chad, Senegal, Gabon, Kenya, and Mozambique, aiming to reinforce security cooperation across the continent.

In Latin America and the Caribbean, Morocco engaged with Chile, Argentina, the Bahamas, Brazil, and Panama, seeking to strengthen ties in judicial and federal policing.

Meetings with Asian countries included representatives from India, Turkey, Bahrain, Kuwait, Malaysia, Yemen, China, Korea, and Nepal, focusing on enhancing cooperation through INTERPOL’s network.

Multilateral cooperation efforts included discussions with representatives from international and regional organizations participating in the INTERPOL General Assembly. These meetings aimed to bolster multilateral security cooperation and enhance policing training mechanisms across regions.

A key outcome of these engagements was the signing of memoranda of understanding and partnership agreements to combat transnational organized crime. Notable agreements included one with Norway’s National Police Commissioner, aiming to enhance cooperation in crime prevention, and another with the Ethiopian Federal Police, focusing on operational, technical, and intelligence cooperation in crime prevention and control.

These strategic engagements and agreements underscore Morocco’s commitment to strengthening international security partnerships and enhancing its role in global security and crime prevention efforts.
