Israeli forces erect checkpoint at entrance of northern West Bank village

QALQILYA: Israeli occupation forces Saturday erected a checkpoint at the entrance of the Kafr Laqif village, east of the occupied West Bank city of Qalqilya, according to local sources.

They said that the occupation forces set up a checkpoint at the entrance of the village, stopping Palestinian-registered vehicles and checking passengers’ identity cards.

Meanwhile, a convoy of Israeli army vehicles stormed the nearby village of Al-Funduq, deploying along and setting up a checkpoint at the main street, obstructing the villagers’ movement and causing traffic congestion.

Israel severely restricts Palestinians’ freedom of movement through a complex combination of over 100 fixed checkpoints, flying checkpoints, settler-only roads and various other physical obstructions.

Closures besides other measures, taken under the guise of security, are intended to entrench Israel’s 57-year-old military occupation of the West Bank and its settler colonial project which it enforces with routine and frequently deadly violenc
e against Palestinians.
