Istiqlal Party Assigns Leader for Government Negotiations


Sal©:The National Council of the Istiqlal Party has mandated its Secretary-General, Nizar Baraka, to lead negotiations regarding the party’s participation in the next government. This decision was made during an extraordinary session held on Saturday.



According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the decision aligns with the interests of the nation and the citizens, reflecting the party’s aspirations to contribute significantly to institution-building, economic modernization, and social development. This role is seen as a fulfillment of its commitments to the citizens.



Council members expressed support for the party’s dedication to the upcoming governmental phase, emphasizing the importance of initiating a new reform dynamic in the country for effective change impacting citizens’ lives. Abdeljebbar Rachidi, National Council President, emphasized that the Istiqlal Party aligns with the supreme interest of the nation and is prepared to support the country’s development, progress, and democratic processes.



Nizar Baraka highlighted that the party’s sustained prominence in politics results from a history of achievements, including those from previous government participation. He stated that future government participation would depend on integrating the party’s electoral commitments into the next government program, which he described as a political and moral contract with the citizens.



Baraka also mentioned the alignment between the programs of the Istiqlal Party and the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), suggesting this should be a focus in the ongoing consultations. The extraordinary session also reviewed the outcomes of the September 23, 2026, legislative elections and the party’s role in the forthcoming government.
