Agadir: The fourth edition of the ‘Marrakech Platform,’ a high-level meeting of Heads of Counterterrorism and Security Agencies in Africa, opened Tuesday in Agadir, highlighting what the United Nations describes as a model of strategic cooperation with Morocco in the fight against terrorism. This platform is an example of the perfect strategic cooperation between the United Nations and the Kingdom of Morocco in countering terrorism, Mauro Miedico, Director and representative of the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), told MAP.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Miedico noted that the evolving nature of terrorism-now more complex, decentralized, and diversified-calls for coordinated responses. In that context, he said, the Marrakech Platform has emerged as the most significant counterterrorism forum on the continent.

The gathering brings together heads of African intelligence services and partner countries, providing an opportunity for in-depth threat assessments and helping define collective counterterrorism priorities for the year ahead.

Held under the joint chairmanship of Morocco and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism, the fourth edition brings together over 40 African intelligence and security agencies, along with delegations from the Middle East, Europe, the Americas, and Asia attending as observers.

The Platform has established itself as a key venue for sharing expertise, strengthening regional cooperation, and identifying capacity-building needs in Africa’s ongoing fight against terrorism.
