Montpellier: The traveling exhibition “The Gates of Morocco’s History: Dynasties, Sovereigns and Personalities” is making its June stop in the city of Montpellier, offering visitors an immersion into the major historical developments and iconic figures that have helped shape Moroccan identity. Hosted at Montpellier City Hall by the association “Cœur de Lionne,” in partnership with the Kingdom’s Consulate General in Montpellier, the event forms part of an effort to promote cultural ties and showcase Morocco’s heritage internationally, organizers said.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the exhibition provides a comprehensive overview of the Kingdom’s history, covering figures from Moulay Idriss I, founder of Fez, to His Majesty King Mohammed VI. It also highlights the contributions of the late Sovereigns HM King Mohammed V, a symbol of independence, and HM King Hassan II, builder of modern Morocco. The event invites visitors to discover the richness and influence of Morocco’s historical legacy.
A round
table discussion was held on Monday under the theme “At the Confluence of the Moroccan Model: Between Deep-Rooted Heritage, Diversity and Openness,” featuring Professor Farid El Asri of Sciences Po Rabat and historian Jamel El Hamri, curator of the exhibition. Participants included Michaël Delafosse, Rabbi Yakov Sitruk, Father Jean Louis Cathala, as well as several diplomats and intellectuals.
The discussion focused on the historical, cultural, religious, and societal foundations of contemporary Morocco, emphasizing its heritage, identity plurality, and values of tolerance, coexistence, and openness to the world. The event saw attendance from the Vice-President of Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole, the honorary consuls of Italy and Poland, and various civil society representatives.
