Morocco and China Deepen Economic Ties at 7th Joint Committee in Beijing


Beijing: Morocco and China recently held the 7th Economic Cooperation Joint Committee session in Beijing, a significant event forming part of the follow-up to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established in 2016 between the two nations. The proceedings were co-chaired by Ryad Mezzour, Morocco’s Minister of Industry and Trade, and Zhang Li, the Chinese Assistant Minister of Commerce. The session was attended by a large Moroccan delegation, including representatives from several ministerial departments and His Majesty the King’s ambassador to China, Abdelkader El Ansari.



According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, this high-level session underscores the mutual commitment of Morocco and China to sustain and deepen the strategic dialogue initiated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI and President Xi Jinping. This dialogue aims to strengthen the longstanding ties between the two countries. During the session, the Chinese representatives praised Morocco’s economic progress and the vision of His Majesty the King, characterizing it as ‘clearsighted, solidary and committed.’



Minister Mezzour highlighted Morocco’s major projects, driven by the Sovereign’s vision, which reflect the ongoing modernization and development in the country. He also mentioned the 2030 World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal, emphasizing the investment opportunities this event presents.



Discussions at the session also focused on Morocco’s significant role as a hub in Africa and as a strategic platform for China-Africa relations within the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). Both sides explored ways to enhance their bilateral partnership by leveraging the substantial potential of their respective economies.
