Morocco Dualizes N1 Road at El Guerguarate Border Post, Boosting Connectivity with Africa

El guerguarate: This MAD 34.37 million project will cover a 3.15-kilometer stretch in the province of Aousserd. The initiative forms part of the regional urban upgrading and infrastructure rehabilitation program.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the road expansion aims to facilitate passage through the El Guerguarate border post, enhance road safety, and improve the services provided to road users, given the central role this crossing point plays in linking Morocco with its African extension.

The visit, carried out on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the glorious green march, reflects the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the development momentum in the Kingdom’s southern provinces under the enlightened leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, through infrastructure development, strengthened regional connectivity, and the consolidation of Morocco’s African ties.

Baraka also visited the construction site for the widening and strengthening of National Road No. 1 (second phase), part of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Regional Development Program.

This project involves the widening and strengthening of the RN1 from KP 2024+917 (new classification 2004+218) to KP 2045+019 (new classification 2024+195), over a length of 20 km, within the province of Oued Eddahab.

With a total investment of 53.45 million dirhams (MDH), the project aims to strengthen the connection between the southern provinces and other regions of the Kingdom, to support trade exchanges with African countries-particularly toward the new Dakhla Atlantic Port-to improve traffic flow and enhance North-South connectivity, thereby contributing to the region’s economic and social development.
