Morocco Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening Synergies at GLION XI on Women’s Rights

Geneva: Morocco has underscored its dedication to enhancing cooperation between the Human Rights Council (HRC) and monitoring mechanisms during the opening of the second pre-dialogue of GLION XI. The session, which focused on women’s rights, empowerment, and gender equality, saw Belkouch express Morocco’s pride in co-sponsoring the event alongside the United Arab Emirates. He also praised the Universal Rights Group (URG) for organizing the gathering.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the interministerial delegate emphasized the significance of structured multilateral dialogues as a means to transform international commitments into concrete benefits for citizens. He highlighted Morocco’s role in hosting “GLION X” in Marrakech in October 2024, which he described as a pivotal moment in discussions on Monitoring and National Mechanism on Reporting and Follow-up (MNMRS).

Belkouch reiterated that Morocco prioritizes the advancement of women’s rights and gender equality, as reflected in its constitutional and legislative reforms. The Glion Dialogue on Human Rights is an annual high-level retreat taking place in Glion, Switzerland, aimed at fostering open and solution-oriented discussions among approximately 60 high-level policymakers and other stakeholders.

Thursday’s meeting, themed “Key Ingredients for Success,” served as a platform to evaluate best practices in implementing recommendations on gender equality and women’s rights at the national level. Notable participants included Nahla Haidar, chair of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women, along with representatives from various countries and international organizations.
