New york: Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, remains convinced that the two-state solution is the only path to sustainable and comprehensive peace in the Middle East, Akhannouch stated in his address on behalf of Morocco at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Akhannouch emphasized that this solution cannot be postponed or marginalized, and it must be seen as a moral duty and an urgent political imperative. He reiterated the need to open prospects for a credible political process and to set a clear timeline that guarantees the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights.
In his address, the Head of Government reaffirmed Morocco’s support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, based on the 1967 borders, with East Al-Quds as its capital and Gaza as an integral part of this state. He also highlighted the importance of the economic dimension in the peace process.
Akhannouch stressed the need to support the Palestinian Authority in strengthening its institutions and fulfilling the aspirations of the Palestinian people for peace, dignity, and development. He underlined the importance of establishing sustainable security mechanisms in the region, anchored in international law and mutual respect.
The government official reiterated the Kingdom’s call for the international community to mobilize to bring the region out of the current crisis and end the war by working towards an immediate ceasefire and encouraging a return to the negotiating table.
This effort involves ensuring the unimpeded and unconditional entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, strengthening the vital role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), and implementing the roadmap for reconstruction adopted at the Extraordinary Arab Summit, under the leadership of the Palestinian Authority and with joint Arab and international supervision.
In his address, the Head of Government also reaffirmed Morocco’s consistent commitment, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, to defending holy sites, particularly the Al-Aqsa Mosque. This commitment is reflected in the joint work of Moroccan diplomacy and the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency, the executive arm of the Al-Quds Committee.
The agency implements vital projects on the ground aimed at preserving the legal status of Al-Quds, protecting its cultural identity, and supporting the legitimate rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people.
In the same spirit of brotherhood, Akhannouch expressed the Kingdom’s solidarity with Qatar, Syria, and Lebanon in the face of Israeli attacks on their territories.
Finally, he stated that Morocco calls for peaceful solutions in Libya, Yemen, Sudan, and Somalia, respecting the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of these countries, free from foreign interference.
