Rabat: Clarifications provided by Moroccan diplomacy regarding the latest developments in Moroccan-Spanish relations serve as a reminder that the migration issue must not be exploited for political purposes, emphasized French geopolitical analyst Emmanuel Dupuy.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs underscores that migration must not be used as a bargaining chip in the bilateral relationship between Madrid and Rabat, much less as a delaying tactic to politicize the debate, especially in light of upcoming elections, notably in Spain in 2027, the president of the Institute for Prospective and Security in Europe (IPSE) told MAP.

These elucidations also underscore the need for preventing manipulations from jeopardizing the excellent bilateral relations between Rabat and Madrid, Dupuy added, who is also a professor of geopolitics at the Catholic University of Lille.

He further noted that this response confirms what several Spanish figures and institutions have stated, namely that Morocco bears no responsibility for the regrettable events of last July.

Finally, Dupuy stated that, as the EU has noted through its agency Frontex, “Morocco remains a vigilant and efficient partner in the fight against organized crime, which is solely responsible for the premeditated influx of migrants.”
