Morocco took part, on Saturday in Rome, in the opening of the 43rd session of the Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), which will be marked by the election of the organization’s Director General and a series of high-level round tables on water resource management.

Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests, Mohamed Sadiki, participated in the opening of the Ministerial Conference, held every two years to approve the work program and budget of the UN organization for the following biennium.

As FAO’s supreme governing body, the Conference also makes recommendations on global food and agricultural issues, and examines global governance policy issues.

The election of the organization’s Director General for the next four years is scheduled for Sunday.

The opening of FAO Conference, which took place in the presence of the Kingdom’s permanent representative to the UN organizations in Rome, Youssef Balla, was marked by the traditional McDougall Memorial Lecture, delivered this year by Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Singapore’s Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for Social Policies.
