Morocco’s election to the presidency of the UN Human Rights Council is a “historic diplomatic success” that solidifies the Kingdom’s standing as a “reliable” country, said law professor at King Juan Carlos University, Carlos Uriarte Sánchez.
This election also enhances the Kingdom’s international position in the defense of human rights, Uriarte Sánchez told MAP.
He recalled that the Kingdom has asserted itself in recent years as a “reliable and credible partner” on key issues such as economic development and security.
Considered an undisputed leader in Africa in several areas, the Kingdom is thus fortifying its ascendancy and influence at the international and multilateral levels, he added.
According to the Spanish academic, this “diplomatic victory” attests to the significant support Morocco enjoys internationally, enabling it to consolidate its position as a respected country on the global stage, thanks to the progress made under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI in promoting human rights.
This su
ccess also confirms the efforts made by the Kingdom in key areas such as inter-religious dialogue, tolerance, and the fight against all forms of racial discrimination, as well as its commitment to a healthy and sustainable environment and the rights of migrants, he added.
He also pointed out that with the 2011 Constitution, Morocco has, under the leadership of HM the King, embarked on a process of reforms aimed at consolidating democracy, the rule of law, equality between men and women, social justice, and the participation of young people.
In the view of this law professor, Morocco’s presidency of the UNHRC will be one of dialogue, consensus, and unity to strengthen the work of this fundamental body within the United Nations human rights system.
