Rabat: Twenty-one people were killed and 2,931 injured, 116 of them seriously, in 2,141 traffic accidents that occurred within urban areas during the week of June 30 to July 6.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, a statement from the General Directorate for National Security indicated that these accidents were mainly due to drivers’ inattention, failure to give priority, speeding, failure to keep a safe distance, as well as pedestrians’ inadvertence and loss of vehicle control.
In relation to the control and repression of traffic offenses, security services issued 50,181 tickets. Furthermore, 7,897 reports were submitted to the public prosecutor’s office, while 42,284 on-the-spot fines were collected, amounting to 9,120,025 dirhams.
