Snowfall and Cold Wave Alert Issued for Morocco


Rabat: Snowfall, heavy rain, and thunderstorms are set to hit several provinces in Morocco from Friday through Tuesday, as per the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM). A cold wave is also expected during this period.



According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the DGM has issued an orange-level weather alert, predicting heavy snowfall between 35 and 80 cm from Friday evening until Monday morning in the provinces of Al Haouz, Azilal, and Chichaoua at altitudes above 1,400 meters. Additionally, snowfall ranging from 15 to 35 cm is anticipated at elevations above 1,300 meters in several other provinces, including Midelt, Beni Mellal, and Ouarzazate.



Lighter snowfall, measuring 10 to 15 cm, is forecast for altitudes exceeding 1,200 meters in the provinces of Driouech, Figuig, and Errachidia from Friday evening to Monday morning. The provinces of Chtouka Ait Baha and Tiznit are also expected to experience similar snowfall intensity above 1,500 meters during the same period.



Furthermore, heavy rain or thunderstorms are predicted from Friday evening to Saturday evening, with rainfall amounts ranging between 20 and 40 mm across various provinces, such as K©nitra, Sidi Slimane, and Rabat. The DGM warns of a cold wave from Sunday to Tuesday, with temperatures anticipated to range between minus 9°C and minus 3°C in several regions, including Tinghir, Al Haouz, and Midelt.
