Abu dhabi: The Supreme Council of Ulema was awarded the “UAE Global Award for Fatwa and Ijtihad Studies” in the “Institutions” category on Monday during the opening session of the 3rd World Congress of the UAE Council for Fatwa.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the distinction was presented to the Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, Ahmed Toufiq, recognizing the institutional efforts of the Supreme Council of Ulema in supporting societal development and strengthening social cohesion. The ceremony was attended by the UAE Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE Council for Fatwa, Sheikh Abdallah Bin Bayyah, and several academic and intellectual figures.
The organizers highlighted that the award underscores the significant role of the Supreme Council of Ulema, chaired by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Amir Al-Mouminine, as a central institution in religious Ijtihad, preserving the national religious reference, and safeguarding the Kingdom’s constants. The Council’s commitment to promoting moderation, the middle path, and tolerance was also noted.
The “UAE Global Award for Fatwa and Ijtihad Studies” was established during the 2nd World Congress of the UAE Council for Fatwa, which took place in Abu Dhabi on November 7-8, 2023. This year’s congress, themed “The Family in the Context of the Jurisprudence of Reality: National Identity and a Cohesive Society,” aims to develop initiatives and projects focused on preserving family stability and strengthening the role of family institutions and fatwa.
