New York:The recent UN Security Council vote on the Sahara issue has revealed significant international support for Morocco's autonomy initiative, according to Portuguese Social Democratic Party (PSD) MP Paulo Neves.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Neves stated that the vote aligns with a broader trend of growing international endorsement for the Moroccan autonomy proposal, even though the draft resolution was not adopted. The backing of eleven Security Council members demonstrates a substantial international consensus in favor of the Moroccan autonomy plan.
Neves, who is a member of the Foreign Affairs and Portuguese Communities Committee of the Assembly of the Republic, emphasized that the vote represents a major political development, solidifying the autonomy initiative as the sole framework for resolving the dispute. He also noted the unprecedented international support for Morocco's claim over the Sahara.
Additionally, the Portuguese MP praised the developmental progress in Morocco’s Southern Provinces, especially Dakhla, and highlighted the significant representation of these regions in the Moroccan Parliament.
