22% Decrease in HIV/AIDS Infections Over the Last Decade, Health Minister Announces

Rabat: In his speech at a meeting organized on World AIDS Day, whose theme this year was “Risk reduction, methadone, and psychosocial support: a winning combination,” Tahraoui noted that the number of deaths from this disease has been reduced by 55%. “These results are the fruit of a collective commitment, thanks to which the Kingdom is now recognized as a model in the MENA region,” he said.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Morocco has succeeded in achieving two of the global targets set for the elimination of HIV/AIDS, namely reaching a rate of 95% of HIV-positive people on antiretroviral treatment and a rate of 95% of patients on treatment with suppressed viral load, the minister noted.

The commemoration of this day is part of Morocco’s ongoing commitment to pursuing national efforts to achieve “95-95-95” goals recommended by the World Health Organization and to implement the National Human Rights Strategy on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and viral hepatitis covering the period 2024-2030, developed in partnership with the CNDH.
